Flexell Space CI
Flexell Space, an in-house venture of South Korea’s Hanwha Systems Co., announced on Thursday that it has signed a letter of intent with Germany’s Airbus Defence and Space to collaborate on the development of next-generation space solar modules.

Under the partnership, the Korean space solar cell developer and Airbus Defence and Space will create solar modules that are lighter than traditional solar cells but of high performance and efficiency.

The modules will feature tandem solar cells, which Flexell Space expects will offer significant advantages, including lower costs, higher efficiency, and rapid production.

The tandem solar cells will be made of CuInGaSe (CIGS) solar cells combined with perovskite, boasting lighter weight yet higher power output compared with existing solutions.

CIGS, a type of solar cell made from a compound of copper, indium, gallium, and selenium, is known for its lightweight and excellent light absorption capabilities.
