The Israeli military announced on 20 August that the bodies of six Israeli hostages -- named as Yagev Buchshtab, Nadav Popplewell, Avraham Munder, Yoram Metzger, Haim Perry and Alexander Dancyg -- were recovered from the Gaza Strip during an overnight military operation. The six Israelis had been abducted and taken to the Gaza Strip during the 07 October 2023 attacks by Hamas and were killed over the course of the ensuing conflict. Munder's son, Roi, was killed in the 07 October attacks along with some 1,200 others. According to a statement by the Israeli Government Press Office, 109 Israeli hostages remain in captivity in the Gaza Strip. EPA/ABIR SULTAN
