Formed circa 1299 the Southampton Old Bowling Green is considered to be the oldest Bowling Green in the world. During a game, balls known as ''woods'' are rolled by players aiming to get the closest to the small white ''jack'' which sits on a penny. The player who gets closest to the jack scores a point. The club hosts the oldest continuously played bowls competition in the world, known as The Knighthood. Played over multiple days, the first player to score 7 points is declared the winner and receives a solid silver medal and knighted by the club.
