Hyundai Foundation awards scholarships to 20 visiting Indonesian students

The Hyundai Motor Chung Mong-Koo Foundation announced on Wednesday that it held a scholarship award ceremony for visiting undergraduate students from Indonesia.

The foundation selected 20 students from Indonesia to receive the scholarship and held the award ceremony at the Ondream Society building in Myeong-dong, central Seoul, on Tuesday.

The scholarship provides approximately 23 million won ($17,200) per student, covering full tuition for two semesters, as well as a stipend and settlement expenses.

The 20 students will participate in a one-year undergraduate program as visiting students at universities with which the foundation has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU), including Seoul National University, Korea University, Yonsei University and Hanyang University.

The scholars were selected from a pool of students recommended by the University of Indonesia, Bandung Institute of Technology, Gadjah Mada University and President University, all institutions with which the foundation also has MOUs.

The foundation plans to offer additional scholarships for select outstanding students to pursue graduate studies at Korean universities.

The Hyundai Motor Chung Mong-Koo Foundation has previously offered scholarships to international students enrolled in graduate programs, but this year marks the first time it is offering scholarships for visiting undergraduate students.

Since 2020, the foundation has been offering scholarships to international students from eight Asean countries — Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia — who are enrolled in master's and doctorate programs at Seoul National University, Korea University, Yonsei University, Hanyang University, KAIST and the KDI School of Public Policy and Management.

A total of 200 students have received scholarships that cover full tuition, settlement subsidies, graduation incentives and a monthly stipend.
