South Korea’s top logistic company CJ Logistics Corp. will begin offering delivery service seven days a week starting next year. The move is expected to allow e-commerce giants such as Gmarket and Lotte On to deliver items every day.

CJ Logistics announced Tuesday a plan to begin the 24/7 delivery as early as next year, allowing customers to get their deliveries even on Sundays and holidays with no extra costs.

The company has already signed agreements with its agents, delivery employees, and delivery worker unions.

Industry observers say the move may be part of CJ Logistics’ effort to meet needs from its e-commerce partners.

Many online shopping platforms that use CJ Logistics, such as Gmarket, LOTTE On, and AliExpress, run online marketplaces connecting vendors and buyers rather than directly selling goods and rely on third-party logistics service providers.

Korea’s largest e-commerce platform Coupang Inc., however, manages its inventories and sends deliveries through its logistics subsidiary Coupang Logistics Services (CLS).

Falling market shares in its e-commerce partners have led to drops in CJ Logistics’ sales. Coupang’s CLS’s sales tripled year-on-year to 2.62 trillion won ($1.95 billion) last year, but CJ Logistics saw a slight decrease in sales from 12.13 trillion won to 11.76 trillion won during the same period.
