Baby pushchairs are increasingly becoming infant mobility solutions and becoming more than just a contraption that is pushed from behind by parents.

Safety technologies that allow strollers to follow users using artificial intelligence (AI) have been developed alongside hybrid models that are portable and versatile to meet the needs of modern parents.

Robot startup Safeway unveiled its robot stroller e-Restte. The stroller can be safely operated from all angles thanks to AI technology, while it can also be maneuvered smoothly and comfortably with the applied robot technology.

The product features hands-free autonomous driving, tracking users, and automatically adjusts the direction. There is no need to push the stroller manually, which is particularly useful when the user is holding items or carrying a child. If the stroller loses sight of or is more than 3 meters away from the user, it emits a warning sound and automatically engages the brakes to ensure safe operation.

“The e-Restte is not just a stroller but a lifestyle mobility solution that can be used for camping, shopping, and transporting pets,” Safeway chief executive officer Kim Dong-ho said. “We plan to showcase the product at the Consumer Electronics Show 2025 in January.”

Premium buggy brands such as Bugaboo and Orbit Baby are competing with their portable and hybrid models.

Bugaboo’s Butterfly boasts a compact design that allows for one-handed operation. Its Dragonfly is a hybrid model that significantly enhances storage functionality, while the Easywalker products imported by Agabang & Company from the Netherlands feature a high adapter system to facilitate interaction between the guardian and the child.
