Boy band BTS’s 2020 song “Dynamite” has been streamed over 800 million times in Japan, the country's largest music statistic site Oricon said Wednesday.

This is the first time a song by a foreign artist has surpassed the 800-million-streams mark in Japan. Only two other artists have achieved more than 800 million streams — Japanese pop band Yoasobi and singer-songwriter Yuuri.

“Dynamite” was streamed over 700 million times in Japan as of April last year, which was a first for a male artist.

The song is the boy band's first English track and is in the disco-pop genre.

“Dynamite” topped the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart upon release, which was a first for a Korean artist. BTS was nominated in the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category in the 63rd Grammy Awards with the song.

BTS topped Oricon’s five-year singles chart with its single “Butter” (2021) in April, making the boy band the first non-Japanese artist to top Oricon’s five-year rankings, which calculates the most popular single in Japan over five years based on CD sales.
