Girl group fromis_9 aims to take over the summer with its third single, “Supersonic,” set for release on Monday.
The “Supersonic” single will also feature B-sides “Beat the Heat” and “Take A Chance.”
“It’s like the summer itself,” said group member Lee Seo-yeon in a press release on Monday, describing the title track. She also described “Beat the Heat” as a “goofy kitsch track” and “Take A Chance” as a song that feels like “the tingling breeze.”
“Supersonic” marks the girl group’s first new music in 13 months since its first full-length album, “Unlock My World,” was released in June last year.
“We really wanted to share this single with the audience as soon as possible,” said Lee Sae-rom. “I hope many people will recharge by listening to ‘Supersonic’ for a cool summer.”
"We wanted to showcase a more intense energy while still maintaining our refreshing style," said Roh Ji-sun. "I believe we've expanded our musical spectrum by embracing a different singing and choreography style."
The girl group emphasized how hard they worked in preparation for the new single.
“We put a lot of effort and care into making this a new turning point for us,” said Roh. “I’m eager to see how the fans will respond to it.”
“I took great care to ensure the refreshing vocals weren’t overshadowed by the impactful beat,” said Park Ji-won. “We practiced so hard that we joked about being able to taste blood in our throats.”
The group didn’t just focus on the music and vocals — they also put significant effort into the choreography, despite their busy schedule performing at numerous college campuses and festivals, most notably the quintessential summer festival Waterbomb.
“I exercised more than ever,” said Song Ha-young. “The tempo of the song is fast, and to execute the difficult moves properly, I needed the stamina. I worked hard to look energetic on stage.”
“It wasn’t always easy,” said Baek Ji-heon. “Looking back, it was really fun with all the members coming together as one, so I wouldn’t say it was burdensome.”
The girl group said they made it through the challenges of preparing for the new single thanks to their fan club, flover.
“It’s always rejuvenating whenever I think about our fans,” said Baek. “It motivates me to deliver an even cooler performance.”
“The shouts and cheers from flover every time we step on stage feel like their own kind of music,” said Lee Na-gyung. “They are so familiar and precious to us.”
fromis_9 was formed in 2017 through Mnet's audition program "Idol School" and debuted the following year with "Glass Shoes" (2018). The girl group is best known for the hit tracks "Love Bomb" (2018), "Fun!" (2019) and "We Go" (2021).
