Korea's Jun Woong-tae failed to win his second Olympic medal after finishing sixth with 1,526 points in the men’s pentathlon final at the Paris Olympics Saturday, while countryman Seo Chang-wan came in seventh with 1,520.

Five events — riding, fencing, swimming, pistol shooting and cross-country run — took place at Palace of Versailles in Versailles, France. Three athletes with the highest combined scores across the five events were to medal.

Jun scored 287 points in riding, 241 in fencing, 312 in swimming and 686 in the laser-run — consisting of pistol shooting and a cross country run — for 1526. Seo earned 286 in riding, 229 in fencing, 307 in swimming and 698 in the laser-run for 1520.

A medal from either of them would have been Korea’s second Olympic medal in modern pentathlon after a bronze medal from Jun at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.

Ahmed Elgendy of Egypt won a gold medal with a world record of 1,555 points. Sato Taishu of Japan claimed silver with 1542, while Giorgio Malan of Italy took bronze with 1536.

Korea still has a chance to medal in the sport, with Kim Sun-woo and reigning world champion Seong Seung-min having qualified for the women’s pentathlon final that begins on Sunday, the last day of the Olympics.
