Korean weightlifter Yu Dong-ju finished sixth in the men’s 89-kilogram final at the Paris Olympics on Friday after lifting a total of 371 kilograms at South Paris Arena in Paris.
Yu failed to lift 163 kilograms on his first attempt in the snatch, but managed to do so on his second attempt and went on to lift 168 on his third attempt.
He started the clean and jerk by lifting 203 on his first attempt, but failed to lift 211 and 217 on the remaining two attempts, finishing with 203 and a final total score of 371.
Friday’s sixth finish marks Yu’s third medal-less Olympics, having made his Games debut at the 2016 Rio Games.
Over at the top of the standings, Karlos Nasar of Bulgaria, 20, won a gold medal with a 404 — 180 in the snatch and 224 in the clean and jerk. His clean and jerk score and his total score were both new world records and Olympic records and, because he is only 20, also new junior world records.
Yeison Lopez of Colombia claimed silver with 390, while Antonino Pizzolato of Italy took bronze with 384.
