China recognises streaming as a profession

China recently recognised 'streamers' as an official profession, in a sector that generated a sales volume of 2.2 trillion yuan (310 billion dollars, or 280 billion euros) between January and October 2023, a figure that represented a year-on-year increase of 58.9 percent as well as an 18.1 percent of all online sales in the Asian country, according to the Ministry of Commerce of China. Around 15 million people were working in China as streamers by the end of 2023. According to the country?s National Office of Statistics, unemployment for the age group of 16 to 24 years, excluding students, was 13.2 percent, while that of the group between 25 and 29 years was 6.4 percent.
