CEO Choi Jae-chan
e2on Inc., a South Korean company specializing in big data AI platforms, is enhancing services to detect signs of electric vehicle (EV) fires as quickly as possible using advanced artificial intelligence (AI) technology, according to its chief executive officer.

e2on has been developing and providing an AI service called ‘EV SafeGuard AI’ since 2023 to prevent fires and safety accidents at EV charging stations by detecting potential fire risks in advance.

AI-powered solutions to prevent such incidents are gaining attention in Korea, where EV fires have become a social issue due to a recent fire in the underground parking lot of an Incheon apartment building that caused heavy damage to residents.

“Due to the nature of EV batteries, it takes eight times longer to extinguish a fire compared to regular vehicles, and there is a high risk of re-ignition,” e2on CEO Choi Jae-chan said during an interview at his office in Yeouido, Seoul on Thursday. “We started developing this service to alleviate the concerns of our customers who manage public buildings.”

The service uses AI technology to analyze temperature changes caused by EV batteries at charging stations and parking lots in real-time, detecting potential fire risks and simultaneously alerting on-site personnel and relevant stakeholders.

This early warning system is particularly significant as it helps evacuate people from areas where a fire is expected, thereby preventing injuries and minimizing property damage.

“The service is especially popular among local governments that manage public parking lots,” Choi added. Anyang City in Gyeonggi Province, for example, has adopted e2on‘s AI service in 12 public parking lots with underground EV charging stations and plans to expand the service to 10 more public parking lots in 2025.

vision AI solution, onVAS 1.0, which includes an AI service to prevent EV charging station fires and safety accidents, also recently received GS Grade 1 certification from the Korea Testing Laboratory (KTL). The solution offers differentiated services using AI models specialized in preventing fire damage and was built on AI training data that has been collected since 2023.

“e2on’s greatest strength lies in our extensive big data accumulated over more than a decade,” Choi said. “We aim to contribute to creating a society where people can live with greater peace of mind by using AI technology based on this big data.”
