Kandahar textile factories resume operations after 45 years

After 45 years, Kandahar's textile factories have resumed operations following the repair of 400 machines at a cost of 60 million Afghanis, officials of Nakhi Cotton Textile Factory said. The Nakhi Cotton Textile Factory is currently producing cotton products for the Ministry of Public Health and military clothing for defense agencies, with plans to activate more machines if contracts with other ministries are secured. Additionally, the Pashmi factory has begun operating 64 machines to produce a variety of textiles, including carpets and cashmere. Currently employing dozens, these factories can potentially create thousands of jobs if fully operational. Established in 1956 during Daud Khan's rule, these factories had ceased operations due to family disputes. EPA/QUDRATULLAH RAZWAN
