Sri Lankan University students protest against proposed National Education Policy

Hundreds of university students took to the streets of Colombo to demand the protection of their free education rights and to protest against the proposed new national education policy. They accused that the new framework threatens to dismantle the country's free education system. President Ranil Wickremesinghe announced during the 2024 Budget Speech that comprehensive education reforms would be introduced. Consequently, a panel of 25 experts was assembled to develop a new national education policy framework.
