Belgium's coast sees decline in tourist numbers due to weather

The Belgian coast saw a slight decline in tourist numbers this July compared to the previous year, according to Westtoer, the provincial tourism company. While nearly 4.8 million overnight stays were recorded, this represents a six percent drop from July 2023. Hotels operated at around 70 percent capacity, slightly below the previous year's figures, but occupancy rates recovered to match 2023 levels from mid-July onwards when the weather improved. The majority of visitors were Belgian, with Flemish residents making up 62 percent of overnight stays. French-speaking Belgians accounted for 23 percent, while foreign tourists comprised the remaining 15 percent. Germans were the most numerous foreign visitors, followed by French and Dutch tourists.
