Shrimp fishing on horseback is a centuries-old tradition unique to Belgium. Using powerful Brabant draft horses, fishermen and fisherwomen navigate the shallow waters, pulling nets through the sand to catch shrimp. This remarkable practice, recognised by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage since 2013, continues throughout the year except for the winter months.There's also a strong tradition of shrimp fishing on foot, particularly among women known as 'De Stienesteekers'.
