Famous murder mystery archive to go on sale in Liverpool

epa11530955 John Taylor, 45, who owns the house in Wolverton Terrace where the infamous 'Man from the Pru' murder took place looks through archive materials relating to the case of the murder of Julia Wallace which are to go on sale at Adam Partridge Auctioneers in Liverpool, 06 August 2024. Julia Wallace was found bludgeoned to death in the home that she has shared with her husband William Wallace in Anfield, Liverpool in 1934. On 19 January Mr. Wallace left his house to visit his chess club, where he received a mysterious phone call from a Mr. Qualtrough, asking him to meet at 25 Menlove Gardens East the next day. After work the following day Mr. Wallace set off and, eventually discovering that no such address exists, went back home to find the battered body of his wife. Wallace was arrested, found guilty and sentenced to hang for her murder but later acquitted after a re-examination of the evidence, a first in British legal history. The case, known as 'the man from the Pru' after Mr. Wallace?s employer, remains unsolved and has inspired numerous novels, televisions dramas and podcasts. EPA/ADAM VAUGHAN
