Former Romanian national team head coach Edi Iordanescu , resigned after the final of the final tournament of the European football championship UEFA EURO 2024. Mircea Lucescu has signed a 2-year contract with FRF, aiming to qualify Romania for the 2026 World Cup. He will have a salary of 27,000 euros per month and a qualification bonus for the 2026 World Cup, worth 200,000 euros. Mircea Lucescu, ranked third in terms of official trophies won (with 38), became the fifth person to coach in 100 UEFA Champions League matches, joining the likes of Alex Ferguson, Carlo Ancelotti, Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho.
