National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA) landscape architecture exhibition "For All That Breathes on Earth" by Jung Young-sun won the 2024 Red Dot Design's Best of the Best award in the Brand and Communication category, the museum said Tuesday.
Founded in 1955, the Red Dot Design Award is an annual global design award, considered one of top three honors in the field alongside Germany’s iF Design Award and the United States’ IDEA award. Awards are handed out in three categories: Product Design, Brands & Communication Design and Design Concept.
On display through Sept. 22, "For All That Breathes on Earth" is a retrospective exhibition on the life and work of Korea’s first-generation landscape architect Jung. It brings together more than 500 archival materials — including pastel, pencil and watercolor drawings, blueprints, design schemes, models, photographs and videos — from the landscape architect’s 60 large and small projects, according to the MMCA.
The museum said the exhibition's "minimal divisions with loose boundaries allow the viewer to discover the context of each project on their own from where they happen to stand."
"As if walking through a naturalistic garden, the exhibition design intends to stimulate chance encounters and embrace themes that are mutual and inclusive."
The live Red Dot Design Award ceremony is slated for Nov. 1 in Berlin, Germany, where the winner of the competition's highest distinction, the Grand Prix, will be announced.
