Yonsei University announced Monday that it helped organize this year's Training for Foreign Researcher of Korean Language program, inviting Korean teachers from abroad for a three-week summer program.

A total of 15 Korean language teachers and researchers from 11 countries such as Vietnam, Sri Lanka and Azerbaijan are participating in the program, which will run between Aug. 2 and 20.

The program is hosted by the National Institute of Korean Language, with Yonsei University helping organize this year's program.

Participants will be getting teacher training and guidance on how to utilize various Korean learning materials, also sharing how Korean is taught in their home countries. Opportunities to experience Korean culture will also be provided.

As the program is organized by Yonsei University, Korean studies lectures by Yonsei professors will be offered. Lectures will mainly be held at the university's Sinchon Campus in Seodaemun District, western Seoul and the International Campus in Yeonsu District, Incheon.

"Organizing a program that helps foreign researchers, who wish to pursue further studies in the Korean language, to form networks and learn more about the field also aligns with Yonsei University's mission to foster talent," said Sohn Young-jong, Yonsei University's vice president for academic affairs. "We hope this program helps researchers from countries abroad to explore various fields."

The National Institute of Korean Language annually invites foreign nationals who are working as Korean language teachers or researchers abroad, requiring applicants to have either TOPIK level 4 or equivalent Korean proficiency. Different universities are in charge of helping organize the program every year, with the institute covering flight tickets, accommodation and food for participants.
