Singer G-Dragon will officially kick off his anti-drug and education foundation JusPeace Foundation with an inauguration ceremony in western Seoul on Monday.
G-Dragon will sit as the honorary chair of the foundation and the CEO of G-Dragon's agency, Choi Yong-ho, will be the chairman, the agency said.
The event will be attended by over 50 experts from various fields who will participate in the foundation’s public service projects, fundraising and public relations efforts.
The foundation plans to support musical therapy for adolescent drug addicts, promote mental health issues through art, sponsor creative artistic talents and support creators engaged in actions that serve the public.
The Big Bang member announced the plan to establish his foundation in December after he was cleared of all charges of illegal drug use.
“Since announcing the establishment of the foundation at a press conference last December, we have been preparing by holding meetings with experts in various fields and setting up business plans since January,” G-Dragon’s agency Galaxy Corporation said Monday in a press release.
“I have always thought that beyond giving love and peace to the world through music, showing good influence by engaging in social service or creating a public foundation could help more people,” G-Dragon said Monday.
The name of the JusPeace Foundation is a combination of justice and peace.
“Even if it’s not grandiose, correcting misunderstandings and injustices in our daily lives is a form of justice,” said G-Dragon. “There are many people in the world who suffer injustices, and in such times, they need someone who believes in them and stands by them until the end. However, because such support is often lacking, people struggle even more.”
“In line with G-Dragon’s intentions, we will start by donating a portion of the copyright and its proceeds, and we will carry out the most creative form of social contribution moving forward,” said JusPeace Foundation's Chairman Choi.
