The Seoul Metropolitan Government urged pet owners to register their pets by the end of September.

The city government announced on Sunday that the city will waive fines for unregistered pets starting from Monday until Sept. 30.

During this period, first-time registrations or updates to existing information for pets will be exempt from fines.

Under animal protection law, dog owners are required to register dogs over two months old. Any changes to information about the owner or the dog — such as if the pet is lost, found or deceased — must also be reported, with fines up to 600,000 won ($441.77) for noncompliance.

Registration can be made at assigned agencies including animal hospitals.
