Korea's developers and publishers are promoting their games in a makeshift cultural center at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Korea House, a collaboration between the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee, aims to promote K-culture to athletes and visitors. Nexon, Netmarble, Krafton and Pearl Abyss showcased their titles at the pavilion.
The center, located at the Maison de la Chemie in the 7th arrondissement of Paris, has been running since the 2000 Athens Olympics. Its Paris iteration is its largest to date.
Com2us and Nexon also displayed content at a nearby athlete hospitality lounge.
Netmarble brought two titles to the venue, including Solo Leveling: Arise, its new action role-playing game (RPG) released globally on May 8. The game is based on the web novel and webtoon “Solo Leveling,” which garnered 14.3 billion total views worldwide. Arthdal Chronicles: Three Factions, an open-world massively multiplayer online RPG (MMORPG) released on April 24, also appeared on the scene. Arthdal Chronicles is based on the 2019 tvN drama of the same name.
Pearl Abyss showcased trailers for Land of the Morning Light: Seoul, the upcoming patch for its hit MMORPG Black Dessert Online. The patch, set for an Aug. 7 release, was first unveiled in France at the company’s Heidel Ball 2024 live event in June. Continuing the story of Land of the Morning Light, inspired by Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910)’s Hwanghae province, the Seoul update will allow players to walk around Seoul’s Gyeongbok Palace and Changdeok Palace.
Footage from Krafton's iconic battle royale shooter PUBG: Battlegrounds' also played in Korea House.
Nexon brought its highly acclaimed Dave the Diver, a single-player action adventure RPG in which players explore the deep ocean to catch fish and manage a sushi restaurant. Dave the Diver was also available to play in an athlete hospitality lounge alongside Com2us’s Darksword: Battle Eternity, a virtual reality action RPG.
Korea House also featured a display of K-pop idols' performance outfits, courtesy of HYBE, and a photo booth from Photoism allowing visitors to take selfies with athletes from Korea's national team.
