NateOn MAUs drop below 400,000 as competition intensifies

South Korea’s homegrown messenger NateOn UC has seen its monthly active users (MAU) fall below 400,000 amid increasing competition from other social media platforms such as KakaoTalk and Instagram.

According to big data analytics platform MobileIndex, NateOn’s MAUs fell to 399,658 as of June 2024, falling below the 400,000 threshold for the first time since tracking began. NateOn, operated by SK Communications Co., has been in service for 20 years.

NateOn has been shutting down unpopular features in response to its falling popularity among users. In a recent statement, the messaging app said it would no longer continue with its shopping services from August 6th, 2024 onwards.
