321-layer 4D NAND
South Korean memory chipmaker SK hynix Inc. announced on Thursday that it will participate in FMS 2024, a global memory semiconductor event to be held in Santa Clara, California, the United States, from August 6th to 8th, 2024 (local time). The company will showcase its latest artificial intelligence (AI) memory technologies and products at the event.

The Future Memory and Storage, formerly known as the Flash Memory Summit for NAND providers, was rebranded in 2024 to cover all areas of memory and storage, including DRAM.

SK hynix Vice Presidents Kwon Un-oh and Kim Chun-sung will deliver keynote speeches on “AI Memory & Storage Solution Leadership and Vision for AI Era” on the first day of the event, August 6th. The two executives will introduce the company’s DRAM and NAND product portfolios and AI memory solutions optimized for AI implementation respectively.

SK hynix will also showcase the samples of its next-generation AI memory products at the event, including the 12-layer HBM3E, which is expected to be mass produced in the third quarter of 2024, and 321-high NAND, which are planned to be shipped from the first half of 2025.

The company unveiled the world’s highest 321-layer NAND at FMS’ 2023 edition.

SK hynix will also be a co-sponsor of the FMS Super Women Conference, which will take place on the sidelines of the event to encourage prominent female leaders in the memory industry. Oh Hae-soon, the company’s first female research fellow and vice president, will make a presentation on the role of diversity for SK hynix’s future technology innovation at the conference on August 7th, 2024.

“With the AI era in full swing, the importance of memory solutions, a combination of multiple products to increase performance, instead of single DRAM and NAND products, is growing,” Justin Kim, president and head of AI Infra at SK hynix, said. “We will imprint our competitiveness and technological leadership in the global market at FMS.”

In a separate development, SK innovation Co. said in a regulatory filing on Thursday that its preliminary consolidated operating loss for the second quarter of 2024 totaled 45.8 billion won ($33.52 million), a reduction from the 106.8 billion won loss recorded in the same period in 2023.

This operating loss significantly diverged from the market forecast of a 50.6 billion won operating profit compiled by Yonhap Infomax.

Sales for the 2024 April to June period increased by 0.4 percent year-on-year to 18.8 trillion won, while net loss expanded to 639.7 billion won.
