PTI announces nationwide protests on anniversary of former PM Imran Khan's arrest, in Islamabad

epa11504552 Asad Qaiser (C-R), former speaker of the National Assembly (lower house of the Parliament) and leader of opposition party Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) sits with opposition leader Omar Ayub Khan (C-L), during a press conference in Islamabad, Pakistan, 28 July 2024. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced nationwide protests on 05 August to mark the one-year anniversary of Imran Khan's arrest, demanding his release and addressing rising inflation. PTI leaders, including Asad Qaiser and Omar Ayub Khan, condemned the ongoing crackdown on party members and alleged that they are facing a targeted witch-hunt. They called for the Supreme Court to intervene following a recent ruling that allowed PTI representation on reserved seats in assemblies, which has been challenged by the ruling coalition. Qaiser also urged other political parties to unite against what he termed a "fake government," while plans for a potential sit-in at D-Chowk in Islamabad are under consideration. EPA/SOHAIL SHAHZAD
