The one-man action thriller film “Night Fishing” starring actor Son Suk-ku has received the Best Editing award in the short film category at the 28th Fantasia International Film Festival, its production company Stannum said Sunday.

“Night Fishing,” directed by Moon Byoung-gon, revolves around an unidentified fisherman, played by Son, who experiences mysterious incidents at an EV charging station at night. The film is shot from the car’s perspective, presenting various angles of the character from the perspectives of cameras installed inside and outside the vehicle.

The award marks another achievement of director Moon winning at an international film festival with his short films. The director won the Palme d'Or for short films with "Safe" (2013) at the 66th Cannes Film Festival in 2013.

While receiving the award, Moon thanked actor Son and his staff, alongside Hyundai Motor and Innocean, who coproduced the film as the cameras were installed in and on Hyundai Motor’s Ioniq 5 EV.

“I'll use this award as motivation to come back with an amazing work,” he added.

The 13-minute film was released on June 14, introducing a new movie term — “snack movie” — with its tickets costing only 1,000 won ($0.72), which is significantly cheaper than the average domestic box office price, ranging around 15,000 won. It garnered over 46,000 moviegoers during the five weeks since its release.

The Fantasia Film Festival, based in Montreal, Canada, is one of the largest genre film festivals in North America and is held for three weeks annually in July. This year’s festival kicked off on July 18 and will run until Aug. 4.
