South Korea’s tech giant Samsung Electronics Co. announced on Monday that more than 200,000 households in the country are now equipped with its ‘SmartThings Pro,’ a higher-end version of SmartThings made for businesses and enterprises.

The ‘Smart Apartment Solution,’ which is tailored for apartment complexes, began with Raemian Leaders One apartments in November 2020 and has since expanded to 248 complexes and 200,000 units, according to the company.

Samsung Electronics has established collaborative frameworks with various construction companies, including major, small, and high-end officetel builders, to implement the Smart Apartment Solution. This solution allows residents to control various devices such as home appliances, lighting, air conditioning, heating, ventilation, and motorized blinds and curtains. It also offers the convenience of managing elevator calls, checking parking information, managing unattended deliveries, and registering visitor vehicles using a single application.

The solution features the ‘SmartThings Energy’ service, which allows users to check real-time electricity usage and charges, as well as monitoring carbon emissions from device usage for systematic energy management.

Users can also pre-set devices to operate under the ‘AI Saving Mode,’ which automatically executes actions based on selected options. There is also an ‘Energy Saving Mission’ that rewards users for reducing electricity usage.

The SmartThings Pro app shows a ‘three-dimensional (3D) Map View’ of a home or an office, making it easier to check the state of each smart home device and other aspects such as lighting, temperature, air quality, and energy usage. SmartThings Pro won five awards at InfoComm 2024, the largest display exhibition in North America, which was held in June 2024.

“We plan to expand the application of our AI business-to-business (B2B) solutions to more apartment complexes and households so that more consumers can experience a more comfortable daily life at home with Samsung’s AI,” Samsung Electronics Vice President Park Chan-woo said.
