Disney+ original series “Moving” (2023) won the Grand Prize of the Blue Dragon Series Awards on Friday evening in the third edition of the Blue Dragon Film Awards’ spinoff specializing in shows made just for online streaming services.
The honor was given at the third Blue Dragon Series Awards, which took place at the Paradise City resort in Incheon on Friday evening. “Moving” was the first drama series to receive the Grand Prize at the awards ceremony. Last year’s winner was actor Song Hye-kyo who received the award for her role in Netflix original series “The Glory” (2022-23) and the awards ceremony did not have a Grand Prize category in its inaugural year. “Moving” actors Lee Jung-ha and Go Young-jung each took home the Best New Male Actor and Best New Female Actor awards. “Moving” was nominated in seven categories in total, the highest for any work at this year’s awards.
“'Moving’ was difficult,” said the director of “Moving,” Park In-je, upon receiving the Grand Prize. “But I felt the joy of doing this work when my friend’s mother, who is suffering from depression, told me that she forgot all her sadness on the day that ‘Moving’ was released.”
“Moving” is a webtoon-based fantasy action series that revolves around a group of superheroes who lead ordinary lives and fight secretly to protect their loved ones. The series and featured actors have been sweeping local awards ceremonies, having won six awards at the fifth Asia Contents Awards & Global OTT Awards and three awards at the 60th Baeksang Arts Awards.
The Best Drama Award went to Netflix original series “Daily Dose of Sunshine” (2023), whose main actor Park Bo-young also won the Best Female Actor award. Best Male Actor award went to Yim Si-wan for his role in Coupang Play original series “Boyhood” (2023).
Two “SNL Korea” actors were given awards: Shin Dong-yeob received the Best Male Entertainer Award and Yoon Ga-i for Best New Female Entertainer Award. The Best Female Entertainer Award winner was given to Jang Do-youn for her role in Tving’s “High School Mystery Club,” and the Best New Male Entertainer Award winner was given to YouTuber Kwak Joon-bin, also known by his channel name KwakTube, a cast member of Netflix variety show “The Devil’s Plan.”
The honor of the Best Entertainment Show Award went to Wavve’s “The Thought Verification Zone: The Community.” The Best Supporting Male Actor Award went to Ahn Jae-hong of Netflix original series “Mask Girl” (2023) and Best Supporting Female Actor was given to Geum Hannah of Disney+ series “A Shop for Killers.”
The Blue Dragon Series Awards was established in 2022 as part of the Blue Dragon Film Awards’ organizer’s effort to evolve in tandem with the ever-growing online streaming market around the world.
Nominees were selected from content released between June 1, 2023, and May 31, based on online votes and surveys by experts.
