Girl group NewJeans will perform during the halftime show in the upcoming match between Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur and Bundesliga club Bayern Munich on Aug. 3, the girl group’s agency ADOR said Thursday.
The match will be the first meeting between the two teams in Korea. The game is set to take place at the Seoul World Cup Stadium in Mapo District, western Seoul.
NewJeans is “thrilled to be performing the halftime show for the dream match between Munich and Tottenham,” the girl group said Thursday in a press release. "We will present a stage that will further heat up the atmosphere in the stadium."
The match comes as part of the Coupang Play Series, a preseason game series that was started in 2022 by Korean e-commerce company Coupang, which typically invites several European clubs and a sort-of All-Star Team K League to participate.
The match will be Bayern Munich's first visit to Korea since the German club was established in 1900, Coupang Play said Thursday in a press release. It will be the second appearance in the series for Tottenham Hotspur.
Famed Korean footballers Son Heung-min and Kim Min-jae play for Tottenham Hotspur and Bayern Munich, respectively. Whether the two players will participate in the match has not been disclosed as of Thursday morning.
The Korean team will face off against Bayern Munich on Aug. 2, after playing against Tottenham Hotspur on July 31.
Team K League will feature 22 K League players — 12 voted by fans and 10 chosen by K League coaches — brought together to participate in the Coupang Play series.
NewJeans has become the hottest girl group in town just two years after its debut in July 2022. It has released some of the biggest hits in K-pop, including "Attention" (2022), "Ditto" (2022), "ETA" (2023) and "OMG" (2023). The girl group made its debut in Japan with its single "Supernatural" on June 21 and filled the Tokyo Dome for its meet and greet event, "Bunnies Camp 2024 Tokyo Dome," held on June 26 and 27.
