Chungju, a major city in North Chungcheong province, South Korea, will be home to the country‘s tallest-ever elevator test tower.

The test tower, designed to verify the safety and operation requirements of ultra-high-speed elevators, has been under construction by Hyundai Elevator Co. The construction is expected to be completed in the second half of 2025.

The 235-meter-high building will become a landmark in Chungju as the country’s tallest-ever test tower for elevators. The tower will test 15 ultra-high-speed elevators, including one that travels at 1,260 meters per minute, the world‘s fastest. The test elevator takes just 32 seconds from the street level to the top of the tower, 21 times faster than the standard elevators in apartments and office buildings.

Hyundai Elevator aims to leverage the test tower to secure innovative ultra-high-speed elevators.
