A French woman in her 70s was bitten by a dog during a visit to Hahoe Village in Andong, North Gyeongsang, and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment on Sunday.
At around 12:21 p.m. on Sunday, a 73-year-old French tourist entered a private property and was bitten by a Jindo dog, according to police. The dog was tied to a leash at the time.
The tourist, who was bitten on her calf with a wound about 4 centimeters (1.6 inches) wide, was taken to an emergency room at a nearby hospital and treated. She also underwent infectious disease prevention treatment, according to police.
The Foreign Ministry was also notified of the accident. The tourist is said to have planned a monthlong trip to Korea and was scheduled to return to France in August.
“The patient was discharged after disinfection and prescription of medication,” an official from Andong Hospital said. “She was advised to receive additional treatment at other hospitals if she travels to other parts of the country.”
Police received a report of the accident but have not yet made it a criminal case.
