HD Hyundai Marine invests in maritime logistics AI startup

HD Hyundai Marine Solution Co., the marine solutions arm of South Korea’s HD Hyundai Co., has invested in Seavantage Inc., a maritime logistics artificial intelligence (AI) startup.

HD Hyundai Marine Solution announced on Sunday that it has signed a 3 billion won equity investment agreement with Seavantage in Seoul. This is the company‘s first investment since its initial public offering in May.

Seavantage, established in 2018, specializes in maritime logistics. Its technologies are based on big data and AI algorithms, and include ship location information, weather data, and port route networks to predict ship movement routes and arrival times.

Based on these technologies, the company provides services such as analyzing waiting conditions for ships scheduled to enter ports and analyzing water traffic.

HD Hyundai Marine Solution aims to enhance and develop its own AI-based carbon-neutral navigation solution, Ocean Wise, with Seavantage’s technology.

The company also plans to actively engage in additional investments to expand the AI digital solution ecosystem in the maritime sector, including ship cybersecurity, smart ship technology platforms, and the establishment of a meta-ocean database.
