Culture Ministry opens design submissions for Lee Kun-hee Museum

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has opened submissions for the design of the Lee Kun-hee Museum, which will house the 23,181 works of art and artifacts the Samsung chair donated to the country.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism is accepting submissions starting Friday for the design plan of the upcoming Lee Kun-hee Museum.

The deadline to register for the contest is July 26 at 5 p.m. All entrants must submit their design proposals by Oct. 10.

Any licensed architect from both Korea and abroad is eligible to enter. For those who are only certified overseas, they must team up with a local architect.

The final winner will be announced on Oct. 24.

The tentatively named Lee Kun-hee Museum is a government-led project launched three years ago to establish a donation hall to exhibit and manage all 23,181 artworks and artifacts that the late Samsung chairman donated to the country.

The museum is set to be located in Songhyeon-dong of Jongno District, central Seoul. The building will span two floors underground and three floors above ground, and is expected to open in 2028.
