Jeonbuk International Cooperation Agency kicks off foreign student internship program

The Jeonbuk International Cooperation Agency announced Thursday that it selected 13 international students to work as summer interns in the province.

The agency selected the students from six universities in the province — Jeonbuk National University, Kunsan National University, Woosuk University, Wonkwang University, Jeonju University and the Vision College of Jeonju — to participate in the summer internship. program.

The internship opportunity was open to international students only, with selected candidates coming from Vietnam, China, Myanmar, Russia and Mongolia. Applications were accepted via each university's Office of International Affairs in June.

The selected interns will be working at local government offices and public institutions such as the Jeonju City Government, the Gunsan City Government and the National Pension Service's Jeonju office. The internship will last either four or six weeks, depending on the organization the interns are working for.

"Although students will be working for a short period of time, we hope the internship will help them understand how public institutions in our province work and later settle down in North Jeolla," said Kim Dae-sik, president of the Jeonbuk International Cooperation Agency. "The internship will offer valuable work experience to international students, give them a competitive advantage in the job market and help them grow as global talent in the North Jeolla area."

Ahead of the internship, the agency held a workshop on Wednesday to teach the students about business etiquette in Korea and how to write business documents.

"I'm happy and thankful to participate in an internship at one of North Jeolla's public institutions during the summer vacation," said Chiem, a Jeonbuk National University student that attended the workshop. "I will do my best to learn the given work and even settle down in North Jeolla after graduation."
