The Korea Electronics Technology Institute (KETI) and the National Forensic Service (NFS) have announced a collaborative effort to develop advanced technologies for video and voice analysis based on artificial intelligence (AI) to prevent deepfake crimes.

The partnership was formalized on Tuesday with the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) at the KETI’s headquarters in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province.

Under the agreement, KETI and NFS will focus on several key areas: exchanging technologies necessary for forensic video and voice analysis, promoting personnel exchanges to utilize these technologies, and jointly identifying new technological needs and supporting government strategy formulation in the forensic science field.

The collaboration aims to enhance research and development in cutting-edge areas to bolster scientific crime investigation capabilities.

KETI’s Intelligent Information Research Division is equipped with sophisticated video synthesis and discrimination technologies that mimic human behavior patterns, enabling the detection of deepfake videos and voices.

Meanwhile, the NFS specializes in the interpretation of various video and audio materials and conducts research and development in forensic engineering necessary for criminal investigations.

“The core of future public safety lies in the development of advanced scientific technologies,” said KETI President Shin Hee-dong. “We hope this MOU will lead to a scientifically secure society that guarantees public safety.”

NFS President Lee Bong-woo also said that “both institutions will work together to create a society where citizens feel safe.”
