SK Group chief inspects Absolics’ glass substrate factory in U.S.

SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won visited the glass substrate plant of Absolics Inc., a subsidiary of SKC Co., in the United States, ahead of the world’s first mass production.

According to SK Group on Sunday, Chey visited the Absolics facility in Covington, Georgia, on Wednesday to inspect the mass production plant.

In 2021, SKC established Absolics in partnership with semiconductor equipment maker Applied Materials Inc (AMAT) to produce glass substrates for semiconductor packaging.

The Absolics plant has recently launched a trial operation, with customer trials scheduled for the second half of this year.

Chey is known to have introduced Absolics’ competitive glass substrate technology to the chief executive officers of leading technology companies.
