South Korean cosmetics giant Amorepacific Corp. announced on Friday that it received approval for its 2030 greenhouse gas reduction targets and its 2050 Net-Zero (carbon neutrality) targets from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

The SBTi is a corporate climate action organization that enables companies and financial institutions worldwide to play their part in combating the climate crisis.

Only six companies in Korea, including Amorepacific, have had their net-zero targets approved under SBTi standards.

Amorepacific plans to achieve net-zero by reducing total greenhouse gas emissions from direct emissions at its business sites and indirect emissions from electricity purchases by 48.9 percent by 2030 and 90 percent by 2050 compared to 2020 levels.

The company also aims to reduce emissions from purchased products and services, which account for the largest portion of other indirect emissions from its business activities, as well as emissions from product disposal by customers, by 25 percent by 2030 and 90 percent by 2050 compared to 2020 levels.
