NCSoft prepares for global debut of Throne and Liberty

NCSoft Corp. is betting big on the success of “Throne and Liberty” (TL), a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), ahead of its global launch in September.

The video game maker on Tuesday unveiled a major update plan for TL, which is set to launch worldwide in partnership with Amazon Games. In addition to the existing PC version, a console version will also be released for the global market.

The updates include improving the growth experience within the game, adding new regions, and expanding in-game combat, among others.

NCSoft is seen as aiming to acquire a key intellectual property (IP) that will serve as the company‘s new cash cow with the upcoming release, while continuing efforts to streamline the organization to reduce fixed costs.

Meanwhile, NCSoft announced a corporate split and the formation of two new companies, following an ad-hoc board meeting on Monday.

The new subsidiaries will be responsible for quality assurance (QA) services and application software development, respectively.

Kim Jin-seop, the current director of NCSoft’s QA center, and Lee Jae-jin Lee, the former CEO of Woongjin Thinkbig Co., have been named to lead the new companies. About 360 employees are expected to transfer to the two new companies.
