South Korea’s SK oceanplant announced on Tuesday its plan to invest 1.12 trillion won ($850 million) in constructing a specialized production facility for floating offshore wind power substructures. This investment aims to address the rapidly growing global offshore wind energy market. The facility will be located in Yangchon and Yongjeong districts of Donghae-myeon, Goseong County, Gyeongnam Province, with the completion target set for December 2026.

SK oceanplant has established itself as a prominent player in both domestic and international offshore wind power substructure markets. The company is set to supply all 38 jacket substructures for the Anma Offshore Wind Project, the country’s first large-scale offshore wind farm. These structures are critical components of offshore wind turbines, consisting of jackets and pin piles, with the jackets reaching heights of up to 74 meters and weights up to 1,850 tons.

Since 2019, SK oceanplant has been actively involved in Taiwan’s offshore wind farm development projects, producing and delivering about 200 substructures to date. The company holds a 44 percent market share in Taiwan’s offshore wind substructure market.
