Samsung Electronics has built Red Hat-certified infrastructure for Computer Express Link, also known as CXL, at its research center in Hwaseong to expedite the development process for next-generation memory solutions.
CXL is an interface that supports communication among computing elements such as processors and memory devices to utilize memory resources more flexibly. The technology has been designed to meet growing demand for data-intensive computations such as AI model training.
The infrastructure established at the Samsung Memory Research Center in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi, will speed up the development and certification process of CXL-related products and software under the standards set by Red Hat, the Korean company said.
Red Hat is a leading player in Linux-based operating systems for enterprises pertaining to clouds and servers.
The verified CXL products at the center can immediately request product registration from Red Hat and receive after-sales services from the IBM subsidiary.
“We’re very pleased that our partnership with Red Hat is able to deliver CXL memory products with enhanced reliability to our customers,” said Song Taek-sang, vice president and head of the New DRAM Solution Development Team at Samsung Electronics.
“Through our continued collaboration spanning across software and hardware, we will remain at the forefront of developing innovative memory solutions as well as the CXL ecosystem.”
Samsung Electronics has been working together with Red Hat since 2022, when the two agreed to collaborate on various fields of memory software solutions.
Last year, the two companies said they succeeded in verifying the use of CXL memory technology in a real-user environment.
