South Korean bakery franchises, including SPC Samlip Co. and Taegeukdang, are riding on the K-wave to boost their overseas presence.

According to the Korea Customs Service on Monday, Korea’s bakery exports to the United States reached $251 million in the first five months of 2024, up 38 percent from the same period a year ago.

In 2023, exports of Korean bakery products also increased by 36 percent from the previous year.

Amid rising demand, Korean bakery franchises are intensifying efforts to enter the U.S. market.

Since the beginning of this year, SPC Samlip has been focusing on the U.S. market.

Overseas sales of its flagship product, Samlip Hopang, increased by about 77 percent in the first five months of this year from a year ago.

The company is also preparing to launch a co-branded bakery in collaboration with H Mart, an Asian grocery store in the U.S.

Taegeukdang also announced plans to enter the U.S. market. The country‘s oldest bakery has signed a business agreement with Wooltari USA, a local retail distributor for Korean food, to begin bakery exports.

Paris Baguette, a Seoul-based bakery brand owned by SPC Group, is expanding its presence in North America, with an aim to operate 1,000 stores by 2030. Paris Baguette currently operates nearly 170 stores in the U.S.
