LG Chem Vice Chairman Shin Hak-cheol will serve as co-chair at the Annual Meeting of the New Champions of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Dalian, China, from Tuesday to Thursday.
It is the first time a Korean entrepreneur has been selected to co-chair the event. The meeting, under the theme of “Next Frontiers for Growth,” will gather 1,500 global leaders from business, government, international organizations and academics to discuss industrial trends, productivity enhancement, and ways to achieve a net-zero society.
Shin is the only Korean delegate among 11 co-chairs, including Huaneng Group Chairman Wen Shugang, Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing (HKEX) CEO Bonnie Chan Yiting and United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed.
The LG Chem executive will also participate as a keynote speaker at the event to discuss next-generation battery materials, an important element of the new green industrial revolution.
The WEF also invited Shin as a speaker in a session gathering startup executives to provide them with an opportunity to discuss business management, leadership and industry trends with him.
Shin is the first Korean business leader to be given the honor of such an invitation at the forum.
He is also scheduled to meet with Chinese Premier Li Qiang and executives from Chinese oil giant Sinopec Group to discuss key issues related to the economy.
"In response to the rapidly changing global business environment and the climate crisis, comprehensive cooperation across industries is essential to finding sustainable growth solutions,” Shin said in a statement. “ LG Chem will accelerate its transition to the three new growth engines — battery materials, eco-friendly materials, and other sectors — by collaborating with global leaders in various fields, from advanced materials in the chemical industry to AI, energy and healthcare."
