Thirteen Greeks appear before prosecutor for allegedly sparking forest fire

epa11432074 A group of thirteen Greek crew members of a yacht, who appeared before a prosecutor in Piraeus for allegedly sparking a fire a remote forested area on the southwestern part of Hydra island, in Athens, Greece, 23 June 2024. The 13 were arrested by the arson unit investigators of the Fire Brigade for allegedly sending flares from a yacht that sparked the fire late on 21 June. Witness reports were collected by the Hydra Port Authority from nearby yachts and a captain near the yacht who saw the flares, banned during the high-temperature days in Greece. The group of 13 was led by the Fire Brigade to the Saronikos Port Authority in Piraeus and then the prosecutor. Meanwhile, prosecutors requested the temporary confiscation of the yacht.
