SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won said on Monday that a “critical error” was found in the court’s divorce settlement ruling.

During a press briefing, Chey noted that an error was found in the court’s ruling related to the value of the shares of Daehan Telecom acquired by Chey in 1994. Daehan Telecom later became SK Inc.

The court incorrectly calculated the per-share value of Daehan Telecom in 1998 as 100 won ($0.07) instead of 1,000 won, leading to an excessive calculation of the contribution of Roh Soh-young, Chey‘s estranged wife and director of Art Center Nabi, Chey’s attorneys said.

Following Chey’s press briefing, the appellate court took in Chey‘s claim and made corrections to its written judgment, but held up its original sentencing for the property division.

“The court’s decision to amend the judgment acknowledges its own error, but since the calculation error was the basis for determining the scope and ratio of property division, it cannot simply end with a correction,” the attorneys said.

According to Chey, he is considering legal procedures to challenge the court‘s simple correction as it requires re-evaluating the substantive content of the judgment based on the incorrect calculation.

Chey urged the Supreme Court to rectify the appellate court’s judgment as there were objective and clear errors discovered in relation to property division.
