LG Display Co. announced on Monday that it has introduced internally-developed generative artificial intelligence (AI) programs for operational use for the first time in the industry.

The company‘s AI generates optimized results based on data specific to the company. For example, when asked how to improve the quality of organic light-emitting diode (OLED) displays, the AI analyzes internal data and provides immediate answers.

This eliminates the time and effort previously required to locate the responsible person or search through past data, as the AI has already learned from over 300,000 data entries accumulated by LG Display.

Moreover, LG Display has integrated a large language model (LLM) internally to bolster security and prevent leaks of their technology or internal information.

“We have ensured security stability by designing the internal LLM to explore knowledge and information specific to LG Display, preventing any internal knowledge from leaking outside,” said a company official.

Support from LG AI Research and LG CNS Co. facilitated the development of generative AI. LG AI Research’s LLM, EXAONE, was used for data training and analysis, while LG CNS‘s search engine, KeyLook, helped process PowerPoint files, which account for 91 percent of internal documents. Keylook uses 15 algorithms to accurately interpret text, tables and charts commonly found in PPT files.

Based on usage data, LG Display plans to introduce an enhanced generative AI in the second half of this year, aiming to expand its application across quality control, safety protocols, equipment management, and procurement.

”The introduction of our independent generative AI has enabled us to prevent information leaks while enhancing operational capabilities,” said Lee Byung-seung, head of LG Display’s digital transformation (DX) division.
