Eid-al Adha observed in Kashmir

epa11417190 The entrance to the Jamia Masjid (Kashmir's Grand Mosque) is closed, in Srinagar, the summer capital of Indian Kashmir, 17 June 2024, as authorities have been disallowing congregational prayers at the main Jamia Masjid Mosque. However, in other parts of Kashmir, prayers were offered in mosques and shrines. The biggest Eid congregation was held at Hazratbal shrine in Srinagar. Eid al-Adha is the holiest of the two Muslims holidays celebrated each year. It marks the yearly Muslim pilgrimage (Haj) to visit Mecca, the holiest place in Islam. Muslims slaughter a sacrificial animal and split the meat into three parts, one for the family, one for friends and relatives, and one for the poor and needy. EPA/FAROOQ KHAN
