LG Uplus, DEEPX partner for on-device AI semiconductor biz

LG Uplus announced on Monday that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with South Korean semiconductor design company DEEPX to collaborate on the on-device artificial intelligence semiconductor business.

DEEPX specializes in developing neural processing units (NPUs), a type of on-device AI semiconductor used in various industries, including robotics and home appliances. Under the agreement, LG Uplus plans to integrate its proprietary AI technology, ixi-GEN, with DEEPX’s on-device AI semiconductors to develop a range of solutions. These solutions will be applicable across LG Uplus’s current services as well as in smart mobility, robotics, home appliances, and smart factories.

As part of the collaboration, LG Uplus will design on-device AI solutions and customize ixi-GEN, while DEEPX will focus on designing and producing the NPUs that enable ixi-GEN-based on-device AI solutions to function effectively. DEEPX will also be responsible for optimizing the NPUs after the solutions are developed.

LG Uplus anticipates that the synergy between its AI technology and DEEPX’s fabless semiconductor technology will allow them to make significant advances in the emerging on-device AI market.
