Kakao publishes 2023 ESG report with aim to build sustainable growth base

South Korean platform giant Kakao Corp. released an environmental, social, and governance (ESG) report for 2023 on Monday, which presents its achievements in the fields.

The report, titled “Kakao‘s Commitment and Responsibility,” contains five key ESG focus areas, including Tech for All and Taking Action for the Planet Earth.

In the environmental sector, Kakao doubled its renewable energy usage last year compared to 2022, with its Jeju office increasing its use of locally-generated wind energy.

The Kakao Green Data Center in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province, completed in September last year, won a first-plus grade in building energy efficiency.

Among the social contributions made last year, Kakao’s digital marketing support for traditional market merchants launched to help them use digital technology in reaching out to regular customers, won a presidential award last year for its contributions to small businesses.

Kakao‘s sustainability efforts were in the top 1 percent in the S&P Corporate Sustainability Assessment for two consecutive years, the company said.
