The South Korean government is considering a measure that requires companies to disclose a description of their policies related to work-life balance, a move aimed at creating a family-friendly corporate culture amid the country’s rapidly falling birthrates.

The Ministry of Employment and Labor announced on Sunday that it has recently launched a research project on introducing a disclosure system of work-life balance policy.

The move is part of its mandate to require private companies with a specific size of workforce to report their use of work-life policies, including parental leave, maternity leave, and work-from-home arrangements.

The ministry will explore details in the disclosure system, such as specific policies to be disclosed, frequency and scope of disclosures, and potential incentives for private companies to comply.
